The spookiest time of the year is upon us with haunted tours, Halloween fun, and fright night attractions opening their doors. There's something for everyone whether you’re a die-hard thrill seeker who loves a good scare, or has young kids who just want to enjoy the magic of Halloween without tears. Here’s where to get started on your Halloween adventure.
Thrill Seekers
Come nightfall, Universal Orlando and Universal Studios Hollywood transform into horror-filled fun from mid-September through early November. The bone-chilling Halloween Horror Nights feature a variety of terrifying haunted houses, heart-pumping scare zones, and delightfully scary live entertainment.
Not appropriate for young children, Universal recommends visitors be at least 13-years-old and does not allow visitors in costumes or masks. If your older children or grown-up group loves a good fright, snag multi-night tickets to turn Halloween into an event to make sure you’re thoroughly scared by everything the park has to offer.
Family Fun
Halloween comes to life with a magical twist at Mickey’s Not-So-Scary Halloween Party on select nights from August through October. Disney World offers a variety of kid-friendly fun like their Storybook Circus. Kids can see their Disney Junior favorites like Vampirina come to life, while the Sanderson Sisters invade the park for a Hocus Pocus Villain Spelltacular. Stay for the Boo-to-You Halloween Parade with masquerading characters, and a Not So Spooky Spectacular features dazzling lasers and fireworks for a grand finale. If you’re not sure if your kids are old enough to enjoy the fun, let them delight in the on-site Trick or Treating, adorable Halloween treats, and friendly costumed characters.
At Disneyland, Oogie Boogie Bash features Mischievous Mayhem fun for all ages, a World of Color spooktacular show, Mickey's Trick & Treat and a Villains Grove. Kids can also search for a trail treats down the Treat Trails to satisfy their sweet tooth. Come early for the bash, and stay late for the lively Halloween parade, costumed characters, and kid-friendly spooks.
Haunted Tours
New Orleans is rich with haunted history, voodoo, and witchcraft that paves the way for creepy ghosts and haunted tours. Knowledgeable guides at Haunted History Tours explore the city’s documented hauntings, chilling police records, and paranormal investigations into the darker side of the French Quarter.
Ghost City Tours knows that just about everyone in haunted New Orleans has their own ghost story to share. Come and hear some of the best on a Fall trip to New Orleans for a frightful history lesson. Choose from haunted tours like the Killers and Thrillers tour for an adult-only exploration into the city's most infamous crimes. Or try a more laid-back Ghosts of New Orleans Tour for some of the most haunted places in the French Quarter and the city's unique history making it a beacon for ghosts.
Escape Games
What if you were presented with a terrifying situation where you only had 60 seconds to escape? That’s what the creators of the horrifying 13th Gate Haunted House in Baton Rouge decided to do when they unveiled their new off-beat adventure, the 13th Gate Escape game.
Want to know what it's like to be trapped in a horror movie or escape a maximum-security prison? The 13th Gate Escape presents terrifying situations where it’s up to your group to work together to escape. You might even forget it’s not the real thing. Not appropriate for young children, older kids and grown-ups with a thick skin can try your luck at an escape game and crack the code to survival.
Haunted Romance
Halloween and haunted tours really can be romantic with the Ghosts of St. Augustine Haunted Romance. A 90-minute tour takes guests to the south end of the city’s Historic District with tales of tragic love and romance. St. Augusine, Georgia’s historic neighborhood is also brimming with beauty and romance, making for a cozy evening for two with or without the ghostly frights.
If you’re looking for other romantic destinations with a haunted twist, try one of the most haunted cities in America. Savannah Haunted Ghost Tours features ghastly tours with romance in mind. Pass through known ghost sightings and hear haunted tales of restless souls and voices of the dead. By day, you can take a carriage ride through the city or stroll through the historic district. But after a haunted tour, you may never look at Savannah the same way again.
There’s no shortage of haunted tours and Halloween fun to choose from whether you’re traveling with kids or looking for a romantic getaway.
